Gender affirming
support.
Gender affirming care is medically necessary, evidence-based care that uses a multidisciplinary approach to help a person transition from their assigned gender – the one the person was designated at birth – to their affirmed gender – the gender by which one wants to be known. This specific sort of care is critical for transgender and gender diverse people, who may experience health disparities compared to their cisgender peers.
Why Bluenose Health? Gender affirming care at our clinic is a patient-centred medical process, with each visit centred around the patient as a whole, that supports people in transition from their assigned gender to their affirmed gender and provides support and care for related medical issues. Attention is paid to both the environmental and interpersonal aspects of all appointments at our clinic, with particular focus on providing a welcoming space, the use of affirming language, and patient-oriented care. |
Our approach at Bluenose Health is never directive, but rather, supports the patient in identifying and moving along the trajectory that best aligns with their individual goals through facilitated self-exploration and shared decision-making.
